It’s my friend’s birthday!

The weekend reminds you what living is…

I’ve probably said that before… it’s true! 

For people who don’t have the luxury of having a glamorous job or a job they enjoy… the weekend is where life lives. Where adventure whispers in your ear. 

This weekend I went to Metrobar. It’s a bar that is part WMATA/DC Metro train. It’s pretty nice.

Since it was Cinco De Mayo weekend they had an event. My coworker’s brother is in a band. Looking at the poster you’d think it’s a rock band. 

I came ready to rock on! Give a little Paramore shimmy lol. But nope, it’s a salsa band! I was shook because her brother is White. No tea no shade. My coworker brother met someone who is Hispanic and they created a band together. 

Hey, I ain’t mad at it. The music is so freaking good! I will definitely go see them again. I was dancing like crazy in my seat lmaoo

People around us were salsa dancing. One couple were experts on the dance floor. They were getting it! 

Saturday was the celebration of my girl Kia’s birthday!

A time was had!

We met up at this place called Las Placitas. They have AMAZING FOOD AND  amazing to-go Margaritas. We got one before we headed to the event. We both got strawberry and it was delicious (in case you want to see for yourself) 

When we got to the party there was a beautiful sea of Black people! We walk in and the DJ is playing Disney Chanel theme songs 

Right there is when I knew this day party was going to be an amazing experience. 

Head inside and there are a lot of people but the place is so big it looks empty. To kill time we look around to see what vendors are there. 

As me and Kia are looking around, this guy blows a kiss in our direction.

(I’m so happy I had on sunglasses because I was staring at so many people lmao. I was staring at him before he blew a kiss in our direction.)

“Did you see that?”

“See what?”

“He just blew a kiss this way?”

I nod in the direction of the guy 

“Was that for you?”

“No that was for you,” she says as she points at me

He nods his head

I weakly wave back because that is fucking weird. Lmaoo

I’ve only seen that in movies and TV shows 

I look at Kia and start talking. Next thing I know the guy and his friend are right in front of our face

Move like the damn Flash 

He talks to me and his friend talks to Kia. 

He is spittn mad game. 

Everything he is saying out of his mouth is a line 

“How are you liking DC?” 

“I like it now that I’m talking to you”

I laugh

“Okay, so you say this to everyone. No really do you like DC?”

“I like it now that I’m talking to you” 

“How long have you been here?”

“Just walked in. Prob like 5 mins”

“Oh that’s not good you’re just getting started?”

“How long you’ve been here?”

“Like 30 mins.”

“Ahh so you just racking up numbers”

“Naw nothing like that.”

He spits more game.

And as he’s talking I can’t get out of my head that how when I first saw him… before he blew the kiss I thought he was gay.

Gaydar was trash that day apparently 

I wrap up the conversation and Kia is happy I did  because the friend was rapping.

He was just talking a lot

We look at the drink options but then Kia gets hungry and we walk to get Tacos. 

As we get in line I see ole boy talking to another girl getting her number 

lol

He at the event only to collect digits lmaoo

I ain’t mad at him

Do ya thing 

Fast forward I get a drink and our other friend shows up!!!

The party already started but now with the 3 of us together fireworks go off! 

For some reason I’m always in a group of 3 girlfriends. The energy bounces off everyone perfectly. It’s an even give and take. No taking sides. Just 3 different women coming together. It’s a friendship that’s refreshing to me. 

I think it’s refreshing because I didn’t meet them in college- it’s not a school friendship. It’s a friendship where proximity isn’t the reason why we are friends. It doesn’t hold us together. We met each other at a job we all used to work at. I only worked at that job for a month and we continued to meet up. I moved to California and we still continued to talk. To create a friendship just because you like each other. There’s no underlining feeling of I have to be friends with them because imma see them next semester. We are friends because we genuinely enjoy each other’s company. 

Everyone is their own person even when together. It’s a beautiful sight to see and to experience. 

They are my first girlfriends outside of college.

We dance! The DJ hasn’t played one wrong record. They are even playing BEYONCEEEEE! Ahhh I am a member of Beyhive!!! I’m singing and doing the choreography

Numbers are being exchanged. 

Laughter is spreading joy around our parameter. 

The atmosphere is light and fun.

If the party hadn’t ended and our allergies didn’t start to act up we would’ve been partying all night. 

I loved every second of my weekend! 

Can’t wait for the next party.
